Sfumato is a modular shelving system designed by architecture studio FILTER for NUNC, and it behaves the way a city does. Solid and grounded at the base. Lighter, broken, more sculptural as it rises. Combine the modules to build the exact configuration your space needs — freestanding as a room divider or fixed to the wall — then decide what stays on show behind open shelves and what disappears behind matt lacquered doors.

Care information

Fabric Care Instructions~

Felt and upholstery should be cleaned with a cloth dampened with water and, if necessary, using mild cleaning agents. Dilute the cleaning agent with water according to the manufacturer’s recommendations and apply it to the soiled areas with a soft sponge or cloth. Do not use agents containing alcohol, acetone, bleach or other solvents. In case of heavy contamination, use mild soap or a special upholstery cleaning agent. Avoid scratching, pressing, or rubbing the cleaned surface to prevent damage to its structure.

Metal Components

Wipe exterior walls and other metal components with a cloth dampened with a mild all-purpose cleaning agent. Do not use agents containing alcohol, acetone or other solvents. After cleaning, wipe all surfaces dry.

Glass

Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the glass. Remove heavier contamination with liquid without ammonia.

System Furniture

Use a soft, dampened cloth for system furniture care. If soiling is heavy, soak the cloth in liquid or a mild furniture cleaning agent. Any whiteboard should be cleaned regularly with a special dry-erase cleaner, at least once a week or more often, depending on how often it is used.

Lighting
Hanging lamps and LED lighting should be wiped with a dry cloth, taking special care to avoid accidental damage or scratching.

Most shelving is a grid. Sfumato is a silhouette. FILTER, the Sarajevo architecture studio behind the design, shaped the system on an urban logic: a continuous horizontal base carrying broad, weighty volumes below, with fragmented, staggered forms above. The result reads less like storage and more like a piece of built architecture for your interior — one that gives a reception, boardroom or executive office a genuine focal point rather than another flat-pack bookcase.

That architectural pedigree isn't just a story. Sfumato took Platinum at the A' Design Award — the top tier of one of the world's largest design competitions — in the furniture design category.

Build the configuration your space actually needs

Sfumato is fully modular. Every layout is created by combining standard modules, so the same system scales from a compact wall-mounted display in a private office to a full-width, freestanding storage wall dividing an open-plan floor. There is no single fixed footprint — the system is configured to your space, dimensions, and storage load.

Freestanding. Position Sfumato in open space as a room divider or zoning element. The double-sided presence and sculptural top line make it a natural boundary between work areas without closing them off.

Exhibit or hide — you decide

The design's quiet cleverness is in how it treats your things. Open bays create depth and shadow, framing the objects you want seen: awards, ceramics, books, brand pieces. Closed-door fronts in the same matt-lacquered finish absorb everything you don't want — cables, files, the everyday clutter that undermines a considered interior. One system handles both jobs, so display and storage no longer compete for space.

Matt lacquered MDF, built for daily use

Body, shelves, partitions and front panels are manufactured from MDF finished in a matt acrylic lacquer. The matt surface does two things well: it kills glare under office lighting, and it gives colour a soft, dense, almost velvet appearance that painted or melamine shelving can't match. Edges are clean, faces are seamless, and the finish is consistent across every module — so multi-unit configurations read as one continuous piece.

Sfumato is a modular system, and modular systems live or die on installation. Furnify doesn't just deliver boxes. Through our in-house installation division, Installify, we handle site survey, delivery, positioning, wall-fixing and levelling — so your configuration is assembled correctly, fixed safely and finished to showroom standard.
