Fabric Care Instructions

Felt and upholstery should be cleaned with a cloth dampened with water and, if necessary, using mild cleaning agents. Dilute the cleaning agent with water according to the manufacturer’s recommendations and apply it to the soiled areas with a soft sponge or cloth. Do not use agents containing alcohol, acetone, bleach or other solvents. In case of heavy contamination, use mild soap or a special upholstery cleaning agent. Avoid scratching, pressing, or rubbing the cleaned surface to prevent damage to its structure.

Metal Components

Wipe exterior walls and other metal components with a cloth dampened with a mild all-purpose cleaning agent. Do not use agents containing alcohol, acetone or other solvents. After cleaning, wipe all surfaces dry.

Glass

Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the glass. Remove heavier contamination with liquid without ammonia.

System Furniture

Use a soft, dampened cloth for system furniture care. If soiling is heavy, soak the cloth in liquid or a mild furniture cleaning agent. Any whiteboard should be cleaned regularly with a special dry-erase cleaner, at least once a week or more often, depending on how often it is used.

Lighting
Hanging lamps and LED lighting should be wiped with a dry cloth, taking special care to avoid accidental damage or scratching.

A phone booth for the calls that shouldn’t be overheard

Every open-plan office has the same problem at eleven o’clock on a Tuesday. Someone needs to take a call with a client, a recruiter or a doctor, and the nearest private space is a meeting room booked until three. The Penelope Phone Booth takes that call out of the room. One square metre of floor, a door that closes, walls built around a sound-absorbing foam core, and enough light, air and power to stay in there for an hour without noticing you’re in a box.

It is designed and manufactured in Britain by JDD Furniture, which matters more than it sounds. Lead times are 4 to 6 weeks rather than the 10 to 14 you’ll see on imported pods. Replacement parts and fabric swatches are a phone call away, and the booth arrives on a UK lorry rather than in a container.

Step-free access and seated-height controls

Most phone booths are built on a raised floor, which means a step, which means a ramp, which means the booth quietly becomes the one thing in the office a wheelchair user can’t use. The Penelope is available without the floor. Specified that way, the booth sits directly on your carpet or raised-access floor with no threshold at all, and the door can be entered straight from a chair.

JDD redesigned the entire interior around that idea based on customer feedback. The door handle is horizontal so it can be pulled from a seated position; the light and fan switches sit lower on the wall; and a height-adjustable desk is available as an option, so the work surface lowers to meet a chair rather than the other way round. The redesign also gave every user a little more elbow room inside. Under the Equality Act you have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to the workplace; a step-free phone booth is a straightforward one to make.

Built in Britain, built to be taken apart

JDD manufactures in the UK as a Made in Britain member and a Real Living Wage employer. The Penelope range is built with around 37% recycled content and is 99% recyclable at end of life, with FSC-certified timber available on request. The booth is delivered in panels and assembled on-site, so it can be dismantled and moved when you change floors or offices, and the glass panels can be retrofitted later if your needs change.

Price, delivery and installation

The Penelope Phone Booth is priced from £3,820 ex VAT (£4,584 inc VAT), which makes it the most affordable phone booth we sell, roughly £400 under the next option in our range and well under half the price of a Framery One. That price includes the lighting, ventilation, power module, carpet tile floor and up to three fabric colours. Options such as the perch seat, the floor-free specification and the height-adjustable desk are quoted separately.

Lead time is typically 4 to 6 weeks from order. Delivery and installation across mainland UK are handled by our own team at Installify, so the people who unload the lorry are the people who build the booth and take the packaging away. What the Penelope Phone Booth is like to use

Step in, and the PIR sensor turns on the LED ceiling light before the door shuts behind you. The built-in ventilation moves air through the booth continuously, so the room doesn’t go stale on a long call. A 200 mm-deep L-shaped shelf runs along the inside at desk height, wide enough for a laptop and a notebook, and the in-wall power module beside it gives you a UK socket plus USB-A and USB-C, so nothing runs flat mid-meeting.

The walls are the point. Behind the fabric is a layer of acoustic foam over an 18 mm spruce ply and MDF frame, with 10 mm tempered glass in the door and side panel, so the booth reads as part of the office rather than a cupboard in the corner. Wool-based fabrics such as Camira Blazer add a second layer of absorption on top of the foam. The effect inside is that the office fades to a murmur, and the effect outside is that your call does the same.

If you’d rather perch than stand, the optional integrated perch seat gives you somewhere to lean for a twenty-minute call without the commitment of a chair.

Fabrics, finishes and two-tone upholstery

Up to three fabric colours are included in the price, so the two-tone look in the photographs costs nothing extra. Exterior, interior and door surround can each be picked from the Camira Era, Camira Blazer, Classic Melton and Synergy ranges: Era and Synergy for a hard-wearing, easy-clean commercial finish, Blazer for a wool-rich fabric with better sound absorption and a warmer hand, Melton for a dense felted look that suits heritage interiors. The shelf comes in a choice of laminate finishes to match your existing desking.

If you want the booth to disappear, match the exterior to your wall colour. If you want it to be found, give it the strongest colour in your brand palette. Either way, send us your fabric codes or a photo of the space, and we’ll put together a visual before you commit.
